COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Most people, who have the choice, prefer to die at home. but dying at home can be an overwhelming task for the patient and the family. Trained volunteers can help. They are matched with families and come into the home to provide a companionship role.

Community Hospice Volunteers are screened and trained in the 'Art of Presence.' Their training includes Communication, Emotional Issues of Death & Dying, Grief & Loss, Family Dynamics, Spirituality, Infection Control & other issues related to End-of-Life Care.

Volunteer help by:
• Being there
• Listening
• Reading to patients
• Assisting with building a legacy
• Letter writing
• Recording stories
• Providing relief for the primary caregiver & other caring activities as requested.

NOTE: Volunteers do not provide medical or personal care such as dispensing medications, changing dressings, bathing, etc.

"You matter to the last moment
of your life, and we will do all we can,
not only to help you die peacefully,
but to live until you die."
Dame Cicely Saunders
founder of Modern Hospice Care

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

These community presentations enable individuals to engage with those who are impacted by death and loss in a supportive way.  Providing education helps to decrease isolation due to the lack of knowledge and/or comfort.  Presentations may be designed to focus on, but not exclusive to, "Grief in the Workplace", "Working with Death & Dying", "Communicating Around Loss and Death".
